The History Of WBC
1943 June 27th~The first meeting was held on the lawn of Mr.&Mrs. Togle's home. 8100 block of Long Point road. This meeting was held because many of the residents of Watersedge had increasingly felt the need for religious services in the rapidly growing community. The services were conducted by Reverend McKay. As the weather grew colder the services were then moved inside the home of Mr&Mrs. Sylvester Patterson. They continued to hold services there until a new site for the church was rented in December. During this period of the church's growth, Cottage prayer meetings held on Wednesday nights in the homes of various members of the congregation. A Sunday school was organized, holding classes in various rooms of the home of Mr.&Mrs. Patterson. It was during this time that Reverend McKay had a vision. The Congregation had grown to the point of needing a permanent home for the church. Thus a building was rented at 8201 Bullneck Rd. We moved into the new church on December 17,1943. On December 19,1943, the first service was held in the new home on Bullneck road. It was then known as Watersedge Baptist Chapel. God blessed us so graciously that we were soon overflowing. The building next door was then rented for the Sunday school classes. 1944 Reverend McKay resigned at Woolford and became full time pastor at Watersedge Chapel in June of 1944.
